Bea is for Bawdy

This is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I was poking around Youtube earlier looking for clips of Elaine Stritch, because the woman who took me on a behind-the-scenes tour of George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate last week reminded me of a buttoned-up, conservative, Republican version of Stritch. And then when I found out Phyllis Diller died today, I went hunting for clips of her. I found some interesting stuff from both Stritch and Diller, but what really stood out was this clip of Bea Arthur‘s final performance before her death in 2009. This had to have been recorded in ’06 or ’07, because there’s a brief glimpse of a laughing Anna Nicole Smith and creepy Howard K. Stern. Anyway, Bea somehow ended up doing a dramatic reading at a tribute to Pamela Anderson, which sounds about as absurd as the words work and retreat in the same sentence (or Playmate and author for that matter). But this is some seriously good comedy. If you don’t like the F word and references to butt sex, don’t watch it. Otherwise …
