les vitrines des Galeries Lafayette

Galeries Lafayette is known for its incredible window displays. The Christmas windows were unveiled on the 9th of November, introducing this year’s theme, Rock’N Mode. Even though I am normally averse to large groups of people [pushing and shoving their way down a crowded sidewalk, many with strollers], there was something magical about seeing the windows late on a Saturday afternoon, right as the sun was going down.

Here are the Galeries, on the Boulevard Haussmann.

And the [blurry] crowds of people gathering around the windows.

We saw a dozen or so windows along several long blocks; most were at the Galeries Lafayette, and some were at Printemps. Here are les rock stars de noël —

I was totally taken by this character; I loved her prim look and fur collar, and how she contrasted with all the red.

I tried to get her and all the red balls, but it didn’t work out.

The mass of people trying to see the windows; the dad with the little boy is just trying to get down the sidewalk.

The thing about these windows is that most of them were alive. The puppets were all totally rocking out, moving around and dancing on their intricate systems of pulleys and strings. I love the little boy in this picture:

These aren’t particularly Christmas themed, but they were fascinating and exquisite.
